Meet Julie Benteux

Alongside my counselling practice, I continue to have a successful career in the corporate sector, drawing on over 20 years’ experience with global organisations. Both roles reflect the same passion: helping people make sense of complex challenges and take practical steps towards meaningful change.

My own experience of life’s hurdles sparked an interest in how the mind works and in developing lasting strategies to support emotional wellbeing. Working in demanding, fast-paced environments and navigating unfamiliar surroundings as a foreigner in the UK have also shaped this interest.

This led me to qualify as a CBT-REBT counsellor. I’m passionate about helping people challenge deeply ingrained beliefs that hold them back, build emotional resilience, and take actions that reflect who they are and what matters most to them.

My working style

My approach is warm, collaborative and practical. I listen carefully, ask thoughtful questions and take time to understand what matters to you. I strive to work sensitively with people from diverse cultural backgrounds, taking time to understand how your culture, values and experiences shape your perspective.

Together, we agree on a focus for our sessions and work towards your goals, with regular opportunities to reflect on your progress. I combine empathy with gentle, constructive challenge, helping you explore and question beliefs and patterns that may be keeping you stuck.

My work is primarily grounded in CBT and REBT. Where relevant to your goals and needs, I integrate selected techniques and protocols from other therapeutic approaches.

I help you understand how your thoughts, feelings and behaviours influence one another, and introduce practical exercises to experiment with between sessions, so you can build long lasting skills to use in everyday life.

I offer more guidance at the start and gradually step back as you build confidence in using the skills independently.

My core training

I’ve always been fascinated by psychology and the power of the mind. Therefore, it is no surprise that in 2020, I embarked on a three-year programme delivered by the College of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and qualified as an Integrative Rational Emotive Behavioural Therapy (CBT-REBT) Counsellor in 2023.

Whilst the course was centred around CBT – REBT, it equipped the counsellors in thinking out of the box and using protocols from other specialist disciplines such as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Solution-Focused Therapy (SFT), Compassion-Focused Therapy (CFT), Schema Therapy and Mindfulness-based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT).

I am an accredited counsellor (MNCPS Acc.) with the National Counselling & Psychotherapy Society (NCPS).

I have a special interest in trauma, and in 2025, I completed a certification in “Trauma-Informed Practice” with Mindbody Breakthrough. This certification provides a solid foundation in understanding the neuroscience of trauma including PTSD, complex PTSD, and secondary trauma; and practical tools to help trauma survivors self-regulate and recover.
